Undergraduate International Admissions

1. General Requirement:

1.1 Non-Chinese citizens holding a foreign passport.

1.2 Must have graduated from high school (applicants who have not yet graduated at the time of application must provide a pre-graduation certificate and obtain their high school diploma before enrollment).

1.3 In good physical and mental health, with excellent academic and moral standing, friendly towards China, and having no criminal record.

2. Nationality Requirements:

2.1 Residents of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan who have emigrated to a foreign country and wish to apply as international students must have obtained foreign nationality before April 30, 2022. Additionally, they must have resided abroad for a cumulative period of at least two years between April 30, 2022, and April 30, 2026 (a full nine months of residence abroad within a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).

2.2 Applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth, with at least one parent being a Chinese citizen, are required to fulfill the following condition: they must have resided abroad for a cumulative period of at least two years between April 30, 2022, and April 30, 2026 (a full nine months of residence abroad within a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).

Applicants must submit complete application materials through the International Student Application System (https://intlapply.wku.edu.cn/) by the application deadline.

Application Deadlines:

  • Fall 2026 Entry:
    Application deadline: June 30, 2026
    Open to all applicants.

  • Spring 2027 Entry:
    Application deadline: November 15, 2026
    Note: Spring intake is exclusively for transfer students. Freshman applicants may only enroll in the Fall semester.

Application Materials:

Upload the following required documents through the application system. All documents not originally in English must be accompanied by certified English translations.

1. Passport Identification Page: A clear photocopy of the photo page of your current, valid passport.

2. Color ID Photograph

  • Format: JPG, JPEG, or PNG
  • Size: ≤200KB
  • Resolution: Minimum 296×414 pixel

3. Academic Transcript: Copies of all relevant academic records (e.g. high school transcript or GPA report.)

4. Proof of Graduation: A copy of your High School Diploma or a pre-graduation certificate.

5. Personal Essay: A 1-2 page essay expressing your educational and professional goals.

6. Standardized Test Scores (Optional): An official copy of your university entrance exam report (such as SAT, ACT, A-Level, AP, IB, or UEC scores)  if you wish to submit them.

7. Additional Requirement – For Transfer Students (with non-U.S. educational background)

An official transcript evaluation from a NACES-approved service (e.g., World Education Services (WES)) is required if your university education was completed outside of the United States.

Official Report Submission Requirement:
The official evaluation report must be sent directly from the evaluation agency to the Kean University Admissions Office through one of the following methods:

1. Electronically: Sent directly to the admissions processing email at ugprocessing@kean.edu; or

2. By Mail: Mailed to the address below.

Note:

※As a Sino-American university, Wenzhou-Kean University follows the customary admissions practices of the U.S. higher education system. Applicants with U.S. educational credentials from accredited institutions (diplomas, degrees, credits, etc.) do not need to submit a NACES transcript evaluation for those U.S. based credentials.

※WKU conducts a comprehensive and holistic review of each student’s application materials. No single criterion will be considered in isolation.

Wenzhou Kean University -The Brochure of International Students Admissions

For the 2026-2027 application cycle, Wenzhou-Kean University is adopting a test-optional policy. Applicants may choose whether to submit scores from national or international exams, such as the SAT or ACT, based on which best represents their academic preparedness.

Applicants can provide the results of following exams:

  • SAT (Total of 3 sections: Reading, Writing & Language, Math); or
  • ACT (Total of 4 sections: English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning); or
  • GCE A-level (3 subjects with highest exam scores); or
  • AP (3 subjects with highest exam scores) ; or
  • The International Baccalaureate test report ; or
  • UEC (with a grand total not exceeding 30 points from five subjects, including the three compulsory subjects and two relevant subjects)

Note:

※For students submitting AP, A-level and IB scores who wish to apply for credit transfer in the future, please submit an official FULL score report for university’s evaluation. The accreditation of credits is subject to the university's relevant policies.

※SAT, SAT Subject, ACT, and AP scores must be final at the time of application. For other examinations, like IB or A-Levels, predicted results may be submitted at the time of application by a school official if final results are not yet available. Students who submit predicted results will need to submit final scores as soon as they become available.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Minimum Score: Internet-based: 79; Paper-based: 550

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Minimum Score: 6.0

Duolingo English Test

Minimum Score: 105

※Students who submit a Duolingo English Test score can send their official score report directly through the Duolingo dashboard by selecting: Wenzhou-Kean University – International Undergraduate Admissions.

 

English Proficiency Requirement Waiver

Applicants may request a waiver of the TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo requirement by meeting one of the following criteria:

  • Being a native English speaker.

  • Having successfully completed at least two college-level English Composition courses at an accredited U.S. institution with a grade of "B" or higher.

  • Providing qualifying official test scores, as detailed below:

          - SAT: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score ≥ 650

          - ACT: English score ≥ 26

          GCE A-Level: English subject grade ≥ C 

          - AP: English Language and Composition OR English Literature and Composition ≥ 4

          - IB: English A or B (Higher Level) score ≥ 5 

          - UEC: English subject grade ≤ B3, and meets all applicable departmental requirements.

※All waiver requests are subject to final approval by the admissions office. Applicants must provide official documentation to substantiate their request. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a waiver will be granted.

PORTFOLIO

Upload a minimum of 10 individual pieces of creative work and no more than 12. The best work should display personal creative thinking and skill in basic design and drawing. Select examples in a variety of media and subject matter.

The categories and criteria for evaluation are as follows:

*Visual Form: Effective Use of Visual Elements and Principles of Composition

*Visualization: Effective Sketching and Drawing Skills

*Technical: Effective Use of Traditional Art Media and/or Digital Media

*Creativity: Unconventional and/or Unique Solutions and Conceptual Strength

*Presentation: Variety and range in the selection of creative work

*Professionalism: Maturity and Thoughtfulness of Essay. You may include items created on your own or while in school.

Images (up to 5MB each), Video (up to 250MB each), Audio (up to 30MB each), PDFs (up to 10MB each), 3D Models (Sketchfab) and other Types (e.g. .website) (up to 10MB each). You may also link to media from YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud.

Tuition & Fees (2026-2027 Academic Year)

All payments at WKU must be made in RMB. The listed currency exchange rate is for reference only (1 USD ≈ 7.15 RMB)

Annual Fees

  • Tuition: RMB 68,000 (USD 9,510) (The latest approved price shall prevail)
  • Accommodation: RMB 8,000 – RMB 10,000 (USD 1,119 – USD 1,399) (Based on 10 months per academic year)
  • Insurance: RMB 800 (USD 112)

One-time Fees

  • Application Fee: RMB 400 (USD 56)
  • Deposit: RMB 10,000 (USD 1,399)

Note:

The application fee and deposit are required of all students, including scholarship recipients. The application fee is payable only upon admission, and the deposit is refunded following official enrollment.

Freshmen Scholarship

1. First-Class Scholarship: 60% reduction of the academic year's tuition fees.

2. Second-Class Scholarship: 30% reduction of the academic year's tuition fees.

This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of three years within the standard duration of study, subject to an annual renewal evaluation. The renewal policy and relevant notifications will be communicated to applicants via email.

Deadline: Jun.30 for fall semester.

※Applicants who meet any of the following conditions are eligible to apply for scholarships.

※The admissions process and scholarship assessment are carried out independently, and only admitted students are eligible for scholarship review.

※Applicants choosing to apply for scholarships based on their high school average GPA must provide an assessment report of their high school transcript, which must be issued by an organization affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES: http://www.naces.org).

※Native English speakers are not eligible to apply for scholarships based on English proficiency test scores.

• English Proficiency Tests: TOEFL 98 / IELTS 7.0 / Duolingo 130 or above

Second-Class Scholarship

• High School GPA: ≥3.0/4.0

• SAT: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Mathematics ≥1250

• ACT: Composite Score ≥25

• AP: Scores of 4, 4, 4 or higher in three subjects

• A-Level: Grades ABB in three subjects

• IB: Total Score ≥30

• UEC: Total score ≤28 in five subjects (including three compulsory subjects: Chinese, English, Mathematics, and two relevant specialized subjects)

• English Proficiency Tests: TOEFL 87 / IELTS 6.5 / Duolingo 120 or above
