1. Overview of Wenzhou-Kean University
Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) is a province-state friendship project between the Zhejiang Province and New Jersey in the United States. It is a Chinese-American jointly established higher education institution with independent legal person status and limited liabilities. In June 2018, the Chinese Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Province listed WKU as one of the exemplary Sino-foreign cooperative universities, supporting it to become “an internationalized and world-class university.” In2019, WKU was approved to offer 11 graduate-level programs. The University introduces advanced educational resources from prestigious universities in the U.S. and uses original American textbooks. 100% of the curriculum are provided by Kean University and all the courses are taught in English. 100% of the faculty are recruited globally. The University offers small size classes and adopts an inquiry-based learning approach. The University aims to cultivate students with global vision, know-how of international rules and conventions, and innovative creative and initiative competences.
2. Overview of Kean University (USA)
Kean is proud to be New Jersey’s urban research university. Founded in 1855, Kean prepares future leaders and innovators in business, the sciences, education and the arts and humanities while also fostering research that addresses issues in our very own communities. Kean is committed to conducting research and providing real-world solutions to issues in urban communities across America. Kean is recognized as one the most diverse universities in the nation and a federal Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). U.S. News & World Report ranks Kean as a top performer for advancing the social mobility of its students.
3. How many students are currently enrolled at the university? What majors are offered? How is the faculty?
In 2023, the University recruited about 1100 students. Now it has a student population of about 4500. WKU and KU have exchanged 1500 students over the past few years. The University comprises five colleges–College of Business and Public Management, College of Architecture and Design, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, Mathematics and Technology and College of Education. The University now offers 18 undergraduate programs with seven disciplines, namely, economics, science, engineering, literature, management, education and art. WKU currently has about 500 faculty and staff, with around 220 faculty members. The faculty members come from 40 countries and regions around the world. More than 90% of the faculty members are foreign nationals, with the majority holding international teaching backgrounds and doctoral degrees.

4. What is the eligibility criteria for international candidates to undergraduate programs?
Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Foreign citizens, in good physical and mental health, friendly to China and awarded a certificate of graduation from high school.
A. For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and subsequently acquired foreign nationality, the following documents are required:
(1) Certificate of Chinese nationality withdrawal;
(2) Certificate of cancellation of Chinese household registration;
(3) Certificate of foreign nationality;
(4) Entry and exit records from April 30, 2020, to April 30, 2024.
B. For applicants who obtained foreign nationality subsequent to birth in a foreign country, if either or both parents hold Chinese citizenship, the following documents are required:
(1) Evidence of the applicant's acquisition of foreign nationality at birth.
(2) Proof of the permanent residency status of the applicant's Chinese citizen parents in foreign nations prior to the applicant's birth.
(3) Entry and exit records from April 30, 2020, to April 30, 2024.
5. How to apply to your university? When is the deadline?
Please email scanned copies of the required documents to admissions@wku.edu.cn. The application deadline for fall entry is June 30th.
6. What application materials are required?
* Completed application form.
* A photocopy of passport.
* A passport size color photograph.
* Copies of all relevant transcripts.
* Official copy of University Entrance Exam report (e.g. SAT or ACT) (optional).
* A copy of High School Diploma, if applicable.
* Personal Statement (1-2 pages), in English, expressing your educational career goals.
*For transfer students, an official transcript evaluation by a NACES-approved evaluation service, such as WES (www.wes.org), is required. The official copy of the evaluation should be mailed to the Admissions Office of Kean University.
7. What are the English language requirements for non-native speakers?
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Minimum Score: Internet-based: 79; Paper-based: 550
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Minimum Score: 6.0
Duolingo English Test
Minimum Score: 105
Please note that the TOEFL/IELTS requirement is only waived if you are a native English speaker or have completed a college-level English Composition course in the U.S. with a grade of “C” or better or other similar qualification acceptable to WKU. Please contact the Admissions Office if you do not have an equivalent score.
8. What are the requirements for applying to design majors?
Submission Method: Please submit your personal portfolio and professional application information to the designated email: mgc@wku.edu.cn and admissions@wku.edu.cn . In the email subject, please specify: WKU + Applied Major + Your Full Name.
PORTFOLIO: Upload a minimum of 10 individual pieces of creative work and no more than 12. The best work should display personal creative thinking and skill in basic design and drawing. Select examples in a variety of media and subject matter.
9. How many certificates will students receive upon graduation?
Students will receive dual degree issued by Wenzhou-Kean University and Kean University.
10. Can freshmen change their majors after enrollment?
To fully consider and respect the interests and aspirations of students, students can independently choose from the majors recruited by the school in the first semester after enrollment and confirm their choice of major for the second time, regardless of whether it is in the arts or sciences. Among them, the architecture major can transfer conditionally but cannot transfer unconditionally. Majors in general categories and arts categories cannot be transferred interchange.
11. What are the costs associated with attending your university?
*Tuition Fee of the academic YEAR 2024-2025: RMB 68,000 (USD 9,360) / Year.
*Application Fee: RMB 400 (USD 55).
*Deposit: RMB 5,000 (USD 690) The Deposit is non-refundable. It will be deducted from the tuition once students are enrolled at Wenzhou – Kean University.
* Accommodation, Meals, Textbooks, and Other Cost: Approximate RMB 29,000 (USD 4,000) -- RMB 36,000 (USD 5,000) / Year.
12. What are the employment prospects for graduates from your university?
Our pursuit of higher education is impressive, with 76% of our graduates seeking master's degrees. Among them, 15% have been admitted to the top 10 universities worldwide, 60% to the top 50 universities, and 74% to the top 100 universities.
13. Are there any scholarship or financial aid policies?
Yes. We have Freshmen Students Scholarship.
Full Freshmen Scholarship: Tuition reduction of the first academic year.
Half Freshmen Scholarship: 50% Tuition reduction of the first academic year.
